Daytona 500 Betting Guide

The Daytona 500 is the first race of every season and kicks off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The race takes place at the Daytona International Speedway and the very first Daytona 500 took place on February 22nd 1959. The very first Daytona 500 had a total of 59 racers begin the race and the total prize pool for the race was only $67,000.

Now more then fifty years into the tradition of the Daytona 500 it’s the most popular Sprint Cup Series race of the season and always draws in a sold out crowd. Daytona 500 is known by some to be the “Great American Race” and it separates the tough from the weak each year. The Daytona 500 has the biggest prize pool out of all of the races in the Sprint Cup Series and this makes it even more entertaining because the racers are aiming for the first place money which the past couple years has been just under $2 million.

With millions of dollars being paid out to racers who place well in the race you can always guarantee that it’s one of the toughest races and there is usually many lead changes. The Daytona 500 is actually one of the harder races of the season to wager on because you just never know who is going to win the race. Your best bet is to look at the match-up bets where you only need to determine who will win out of two racers and not the whole pack.

I don’t suggest that you only bet on the outright winner of the race because the odds won’t be in your favor during the race. It’s nice when you do hit this bet, but you need other bets during the race to make sure you cover yourself in case you don’t win the outright winner bet. Another good bet you can make on the Daytona 500 is the podium finish bet where you choose the three racers you think will finish in the top three positions. This bet gives you three chances to win money and allows you to win some money if you manage to hit 2 or 3 of them.

The one good thing about the Daytona 500 is that everyone knows it’s supposed to be a close race and the bookmakers usually keep the odds fairly neutral. In most races of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series there will be a couple racers who don’t have favourable odds, but in the Daytona 500 most bets pay out great even if you’re picking one of the favourites.

The Daytona 500 usually ends up with surprising winners so don’t always pick the best racers because you might get let down. With so much fame and glory coming to the winner of the Daytona 500 many of the racers work much harder to win this race over any of the other races during the season. The Daytona 500 is always in February so make sure you look out for this race every year so you can win some money wagering on some of the outcomes.
